The first goal of taking Bass guitar lesson is to reduce your learning curve for both the short term and the long term.

Your short term learning curve is how quickly you get to play the music you like. The long term learning curve is how much progress you can make after that.

You need to balance the short term excitement of playing music quickly against the long term enjoyment of mastering your art. These two sometimes conflict.

Let me give you an example.

Your hand and thumb position in holding chords is a habit and a skill. If your rush through the process, it is likely that you begin holding the guitar like a shovel with your thumb sticking over the fret board.

This hand position will stress your wrist, makes it harder to get clean sounds and slows down your chord changing speed.

In the beginning, it could be frustrating to take the time and develop the hand positioning skill that will help you in the long run. It would be easier just to rush through and get to play your music.
